Citizens is allowing United Property & Casualty (UPC) business to be submitted with a March 29, 2023, effective date. Risks may be backdated with an effective date of March 29 until April 17, 2023. Citizens wants to remind agents of proof of repair documentation that is required when there is existing damage to the dwelling.
Important Dates for UPC
- April 17, 2023 – The last day to submit applications with a March 29 effective date.
- (New) June 27, 2023 – Proof of contract for repairs must be submitted for dwellings with existing damage to avoid a nonrenewal on the policy’s expiration date in 2024. More details below.
Proof of Contract for Repairs
Properties with existing damage must submit a signed contract to show proof that repairs will occur. This contract should be submitted to Citizens no later than June 27, 2023, by uploading the documents in PolicyCenter®.
If repairs have been completed, submit proof-of-repair documentation per the Submitting Acceptable Proof of Repairs for Hurricane Structure Damage Job Aid. Examples of acceptable documentation include (but are not limited to):
- Photographs of the repairs, along with one of the following:
- Supporting receipts and/or invoices indicating that the services/materials were paid in full
- Inspection report or regulatory permit indicating work was completed
- Final roof permit (if the roof was replaced)
If the 4-Point Inspection or roof certification were deferred, new inspections/certifications should be completed and submitted after repairs are made. To prevent a nonrenewal, proof of repair should be submitted no later than October 31, 2023. To lift a nonrenewal, proof of repair and all required documents will be required before the policy’s 2024 expiration date.
Note: Submissions that were denied under the prior guidance may be resubmitted for consideration under this new guidance.
