With safety as your top priority, you can prepare to file your claim and start the recovery process. Citizens is ready to guide you through each stage.

  1. Report your claim immediately:
    • Call Citizens' 24/7 Claims Hotline at 866.411.2742.
    • You can file your claim through myPolicy, Citizens’ online self-service tool. Register for myPolicy
  2. Document thoroughly: 
    • Take photos and videos of all the damage before cleanup.
    • Keep all receipts for emergency repairs and temporary lodging.
  3. Understand your policy: 
    • Review your policy or contact your agent for clarification on coverage.
    • Be aware of your hurricane deductible, which is typically higher than standard deductibles.
  4. Emergency repairs: 
    • Make temporary repairs to prevent further damage to covered property (only if it’s safe to do so).
    • Keep receipts for all emergency repairs.
  5. Adjuster inspection: 
    • An adjuster will be assigned to assess the damage.
    • Prepare a list of damaged items and be present during the inspection.
  6. Temporary living expenses: 
    • If your home is uninhabitable, keep records of all additional living expenses.
    • These may be reimbursable depending on your policy.
