Legal Requirements
Florida law imposes specific requirements on insurers and policyholders for resolving a sinkhole claim. By taking the guesswork out of the process, Citizens hopes to make the process easier and less stressful.
Sinkhole Claims Damage Requirements
- Sinkhole claims with a date of loss prior to 2012 must have actual physical damage caused by sinkhole activity.
- Sinkhole claims filed on a policy issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2012, must have structural damage to the principal building (including the foundation) caused by sinkhole activity.
