Joe Martins joined Citizens in June 2012, as Chief of Internal Audit, based in Jacksonville. Martins is an accomplished audit executive with broad-based expertise in a variety of areas including governance, risk management, insurance, finance, accounting, manufacturing and forensic analysis. Joe has a record of excellence in accurately evaluating risk, with focused direction of strategy, governance structures and control environment, to achieve valued delivery of assurance to management and the audit committee.

Prior to joining Citizens, Joe worked with the Zurich Insurance Group, first as the Head of Audit for Zurich Insurance Company (South Africa) and later as Assistant Vice President (Audit Director) at Zurich North America.

Joe is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and has a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA). He earned a Baccalareus Commerci (Accounting) from the University of South Africa and a Diploma in Criminal Justus and Forensic Auditing from Johannesburg University.
