Citizens’ Board of Governors will meet Wednesday afternoon to approve an emergency authorization allowing the state’s insurer of last resort to respond more quickly as it prepares for potential landfall and impacts of Hurricane Irma later this week.

Meeting by telephone, Citizens’ Board members are expected to approve an emergency authorization giving Citizens staff more authority to enter contracts and make purchases of goods and services. This action mirrors an executive order signed Monday by Florida Governor Rick Scott.

The Board also is expected to approve a pending contract for independent adjusting services to augment already existing contracts with several firms that will provide adjusting services following a hurricane or other catastrophic event. Meeting documents are available on the Citizens website.

The teleconference will immediately follow a previously scheduled meeting of the Citizens Claims Committee, which begins at 1 p.m.
